Ever wonder what the letter suffix means in the Oracle Database version numbers?
Starting Oracle 8, release 1 Oracle starting adding a single letter suffix to its DB versions
The i stood for internet, or Internet ready this version debuted in the late 90’s and matured in the early 2000’s
g stood for Grid architecture,
The current version has c – indicating the move towards a cloud ready database and platform. PDU’s is a major functionality enforcing this move.
